I’ll be in NYC for the summer working as an interactive intern for Fantasy Interactive. After my first day there, I’m really pumped about my team members I’m working with, the project I get to work on, and taking in all NYC and FI has to offer.

Cinema4D Projectionman Tutorial

I found a lack of resources available to learn cinema 4D’s new camera mapping module, so I played around with it and created a tutorial so that others could see it power and ease of use.

1.Take a picture of a hallway.
a.Hallways are a good starting point for camera mapping, simple geometry to
project onto itʼs essentially 5 cubes: floor, ceiling, left wall, right wall, and the end
of the hallway.

Abstract Mograph

Recently I was creating abstract shapes using Mograph in Cinema 4D, I was able to create some really interesting shapes using loft NURBS with assorted splines and Cloner objects. I toyed around with subsurface scattering and layer effects with color and transparency .

This first one is part of animation that is giving me a little trouble rendering but I think once I iron a few things out and add sound it’ll be a solid abstract piece.

Atgaderum Art

Last quarter I had the opportinuty to work on a side project providing media assets to a team of developers creating a physics based puzzle game. Our art team consisted of less than 5 members and we only had six weeks to develop a style and create polished assets. My job was to design the user built contraptions that were essentially tools to complete puzzles (ladders, ropes, explosives, etc). The style we setteled on was a mix between fantasy/toon, we modeled all assets in cinema4D, and stylized them with sketch and toon and photoshop.

last.fm

For the piece I really wanted to utilize dynamic information to power a flash application. After researching I came across several API’s for actiosncript 3.o and after polling a number of people found that last.fm’s API would appeal to the largest target audience.

Squid!

So my squid started out as “Design Tag”, something us RIT kids do when we have free time. I had always wanted to do something underwater with squids so in about 2 hours I quickly came up with this:

Bees!

I put some time aside to render out a bee to be used for my bitmap world in AS3. Even though the bee will only end up being 50×50 pixels, but it never hurts to go over kill and render out big models to show off. Later for the final I ended up using a small .gif sequence of the bee slowly rotating in 3d space to give an extra sense of depth.

That's one sweet bee.

The goal of this piece was to create a timeline. After venturing on the internets for a while I noticed a trend: most timelines are really boring. Most timelines consisted of poorly designed shells that have a simple side scrolling bar with dates and events. I wanted to create a more engaging user experience and was heavily influenced by the Halo 3 Believe website. Instead of conveying a series of events, I wanted to recreate a moment in time and allow the user to explore the environment.

Kinetic Typography

Kinetic Typography, the next frontier. This piece offered the unique difficulty of syncing up spoken words to type, and to also find a script that was interesting enough to be animated. As I child I watched far too many “Comedy Central Presents” and remembered this particular stand-up act had always painted a very clear visual picture, plus it was obscure enough that most people wouldn’t recognize it.

The step after storyboard was to create some style frames combing different typefaces with color combinations, some were more succesful than others:

1st Style

1st Style

style 2

style 2

Style 3, my final style was based off of this inital style frame.

Style 3, my final style was based off of this inital style frame.

Then after several more type and color changes, the final style was established off of style #3.

Final Render is on my portfolio.
