For the piece I really wanted to utilize dynamic information to power a flash application. After researching I came across several API’s for actiosncript 3.o and after polling a number of people found that last.fm’s API would appeal to the largest target audience.
I started off by doing some sketches on how I wanted the nodes to connect, I toyed with the idea of using papervision, but felt that in 3 weeks I really wouldn’t have enough time to do it right.

I then create some wireframes and after looking at how the nodes were connecting it looked more and more like a constellation map which I used in my comps:

But in my first comp the type and connection weren’t working, and the swooshes in the background were too bold.

I still had more changes to make, but this is a step in the right direction.
